Benefits Specialist I

Job Description:

As a Benefits Specialist I for the Consumer Driven department, this position will provide email and phone support for over 6,000 employees for our Consumer Driven Health Plans (Health Flexible Spending Accounts, Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Reimbursement Accounts). This position is responsible for the day-to-day claims processing, reimbursements and up-to-date archival of confidential claim information.  This position is also responsible for support and cross-training of COBRA and Benefits Administration Outsourcing operations and daily processing.   

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of computers and the internet
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), Internet Explorer
  • Knowledge of FSA, HRA and Dependent Care FSA plans or willingness to learn
  • Basic knowledge of COBRA or willingness to learn
  • Analytical thinker
  • Ability to handle multiple projects or tasks while effectively prioritizing to meet deadlines in an ever changing fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Maintain privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations
  • Understanding of Cafeteria Section 125 plans
  • Willingness to be a team player
  • Ability to be flexible, self-directed, motivated, and able to interact with employees
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Knowledge of IRS-required information on receipt substantiation

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Developing a working knowledge of our claims processing platforms
  • Processing claims received by participants
  • Processing reimbursements received by participants, with special attention to detail to participants owing repayment or creating duplicate claims
  • Handling of second level Customer Service calls and emails, as well as fielding second tier queries from Customer Service
  • Being the point person for overflow of the Consumer Driven queue, as well as answering calls in the Consumer Driven queue during the Customer Service weekly meeting
  • Serving as support for the daily COBRA and Benefits Administration Outsourcing operations
  • Performing other duties as assigned
